From Track
to Founder
I’m Miles Lanham, a UVA ’27 biomedical engineering student and founder of a highly regulated drug-device startup.
I came to UVA to run track, but quickly discovered a passion for entrepreneurship. By the middle of my junior year, I had secured $250K+ in pitch competition wins and non-dilutive funding.
Since then, I’ve filed and received multiple patents, built a team and advisor network with 40+ years of industry experience, successful exits, and $200M+ raised, and I’m now leading an institutional funding round with investors across the country.
People Are the
Best Resource
Building in a highly regulated drug-device space has made nearly every part of the founder journey harder.
I’ve had to earn credibility early, build robust IP, recruit people far more experienced than me, communicate a complex vision clearly, and go the extra mile to secure funding and trust.
Those challenges taught me how valuable the right people and guidance can be, which is why I created Student Founder to share what I’ve learned and help other students navigate the same journey.
